I continue down Memory Lane. I passed on some things that were common to my youth but realize there are other things that are my heritage. Grandmother told of floating the buckboard across the Ohio River by tying 6 large wooden barrels to the wagon and removing the harnesses from the team so they could swim. Daddy gathered coal as a boy along the tracks for fuel to heat the house. Our house that Dad built was primarily made of wood scavenged from Box cars. Mom and Aunt Liz finished the garage into an apartment when Dad was off to Guam in WW2. We all played until dark when we knew to come in for supper. There were fireflies and horned toads to play with. I got my first BB gun the christmas when I was ten and shortly got use of the 22/410 for hunting small game. Momma said she would cook it if I would dress it. I skidded behind cars on icy roads and ice skated across the lake to get to school. We split cord wood to heat the house. Cooking in the kitchen was fine but cleanup was the cooks responsibility. I loved to cook. Then I went to junior HS and wrecked and repaired my Dads Car a 53 Ford. Dad said you wrecked it you fix it. I was 13. When I turned 15 and could get a drivers license he would not pay extra for the insurance but relented when the church asked me to drive one of the buses to bring children to Sunday School. Did you ever tie a thread around a June bug and let it fly on a leash? When we were in Jr HS Mother insisted if we were going to swim the mile across the lake there had to be someone in a rowboat along in case someone needed help. Making and flying kites (kite being a particular shape-quadrilateral with two sets of adjacent and equal sides. Also a flying box kite. Did anyone ever take a hand crank generator out of a telephone and use it to gather night-crawlers to go fishing. We hooked a flashlight battery to model T spark coil to give a charge to a circle of friends at a party. Also used the crank generator to give a similar charge to a group. Now all of that is a bit disjointed but I am having a wonderful life. All that seems very normal to me but I wonder.....
