I continue to think about this....wondering when..if ever..we as Americans will realize that the Never Forget has almost been forgotten by some. I hear the rumors of protests over racial issues again here in this great country and wonder why such educated intelligent people fail to remember what went on many years ago when this started...and I wonder when we will put away the smaller issues of political character and focus on the threats that seem to be coming back at us like a fog that trails back in...after the sunshine has driven it out. I hear about the demand on American citizens to register for this, that, and the other things in life and think about the historical dealings of Hitler before the real Hitler announced himself to the world and to the Jews (who by the way we ignored until the threats came to our way of life). I remember the stories of the leather necks and the rallying aroung the idea that we must combat our enemies here, there, and in the air.....yes...I remember. I remember sitting in a college English class where we were discussing what we would write about the Vietnam war when almost half of the class acknowledged that they knew nothing of this war. A war that ended in a defeat that we should not have had...boots on the ground had it won...those in command decided to give it away. History....should serve to preserve and institute a better way. I would hope that this still stands true...
