I cosponsored a rule that protects the Social Security retirement fund from being raided to fund Social Security Disability Insurance. Last year I asked Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew during a hearing how the administration intended to avert the impending insolvency of Social Security Disability. I was surprised and disappointed when he admitted that the White House was planning to raid the retirement fund to keep the disability program afloat. The rule that I cosponsored, which passed the House of Representatives last week, will ensure that Social Security retirement is protected. The Social Security retirement fund has been raided far too many times and that has to stop. It is only fair that we find a solution that protects the Social Security retirement program while providing for the catastrophically injured who depend on Social Security Disability.
