I debated whether or not to post this. But so many people already knew that I was going to the Wills Eye Hospital that I felt that I owe them an explanation. Well today, I saw the best of the East. And I must say, I am impressed! When I walked into the reception area at 0630, I did not expect to see many people. Instead there were about 100 people there, about half of them patients. I thought I was in the army again at sick call. When I listened to to their voices, I was hearing the world. There literally were people there from all over the world, form Italy, Iran, India, Belorus... well you get the idea. I did not expect this cacophony in the United States. Then, I under went 8 and 1/2 hours of testing. My left eye is sore tonight. But now we know. It appears that I have a cancer of the ciliary body. The ciliary body is connective tissue in the eye between the iris and the retina/choroidal of the eye. This is extremely rare, even more rare than the schwannoma diagnosis that I was expecting. But unfortunately, these cancers are often undetected and quite aggressive. Mine is small, 3.8 mm which means that it has not progressed far. The fact that it was found is sign of great fortune. It is imminently treatable. Thursday, I have surgery to insert a custom made radioactive I-125 plaque which will be removed Monday. That should take of it: fine! Of course I will have follow up examines twice a year for a while. So while the diagnosis is bad, I have been lucky as I have always been through my life. To God, I give thanks for watching over me.
