I decided before I was married that I would be a stay-at-home mother. I did that for 33 years. Then our boys were on to their own lives. By the time Patrick and Daniel were out of the house our grandchildren had started to arrive so there was never a time when kids werent a part of daily life. However, there was a period when I thought what do I do now. Im just a mom. No further education. No training. I felt somewhat useless. I had friends with careers and who were very successful. I was still just mom, and grandma. Over the past several weeks I have been very involved with all of our grandchildren. I spend hours and days with them throughout the week helping to lighten the load for my sons and daughters. What a blessing it is that I can do this. Not every grandparent gets to. Many have grandchildren in other cities and states and see them once a year, maybe! Mine are a part of daily life. So, I continue to be just be the same old person. Im not looking for anyone to pat me on the back. Im simply pointing out that being just mom and grandma is pretty damn wonderful.
