I did my senior paper on the Northern Ireland Peace Process and this man was a giant. Though this man was stongly anti-Catholic to his last days, he saw the importance of working together with the Catholics in NI and the political party who was associated with the Irish Republican Army. Peace came to Northern Ireland, largely because of him reconciling the differences and sharing he government with a once terrorist group. I was profoundly sad at his passing because he shows me that forgiveness and reconciliation can still be shown through someone who is so staunch in his beliefs.
