I dont get some Nigerians. In 2011 we lost 10 NYSC people (and many others) in Bauchi and some other states in the North over election. Before the election, there was horrendous violence in Akwa Ibom and other places where people were killed and property destroyed. Yet, we complain of militarisation of Osun and Ekiti elections, in spite of how peaceful and transparent the election was. If the elections were violent, the same people would have complained that the government was irresponsible. Some are even asking that only the police should be used at elections. If we complain that the soldiers were beating up voters or shooting at them, thereby preventing them from voting, that is another thing: it would be unacceptable and condemnable. But if our complaint is that the military should not be used at elections, I totally disagree with that. If we can kill people for elections, burn property, snatch ballot boxes, chase away opposition voters with guns and machetes, then let the military be present during our elections. That makes me feel safer during elections.
