I dont often share stories of my clients turnarounds. I find a lot of posts I see like that are for the ego or other personal motives. But here is some positive social media to share and hopefully inspire. 18 year old Daniel has gone from being told he is going fail all his A levels to developing an exciting platform for uninspired gap year students in a few months. I met Daniel in March 2014 when he was 17. He was lost, lacking in confidence and facing the reality that he was going to fail his A Levels. He was inactive in his social life, closed off and unable to connect with himself or the world around him. Our time therefore focused on building Daniel the mindset he needed to move forward. This involved building his core confidence, telling him a few - sometimes direct - home truths and instilling some fire into him. Nothing much happen over the first 3 weeks as we wrestled with this negative, defeated attitude. For want of a better analogy, it reminded me of this scene in LOTR. You can figure out who is who: https://youtube/watch?v=0Jc9WpF3t1s Like the video, once the fog is lifted, the persons perception of their world is able to change. New empowering meanings are attached, and everything changes. This was no different for Daniel. You could see his confidence started to transform. Each week his non-verbal and verbal communication shifted to be more open and positive. His thoughts and feelings were more aligned and he spoke from a place of truth, not limitation. He went from revising 4 hours a week to building to 28 hours per week. To be honest I remember putting that much time into my PlayStation at his age... He identified and developed a path to move towards his pilot licence that would enable him to travel and explore the world. He was killing it, but as it sometimes happens, life throws us a curveball and suddenely Daniel unfortunately had to go in for surgery 6 weeks out from his A Levels. This meant he was unable to revise or continue his progression. Most of us would use that as an opt out, an excuse. What we had done before being useless or now invaluable. This is why those first 3 weeks were so important. To build that fundamental knowing and certainty of self. Its your own internal back-up system that remains when everything else is wiped out. Doing what he had trained his mind and emotions to do, he didnt lose belief, and he was able to go into his exams, though underprepared, and prove his former self wrong. Amazingly he went from 3 predicted fails to a B C and D. Able to now go to university. I caught up with Daniel today a few months on. Even with the unfortunate fact that he is going in for more surgery in January, that hasnt stopped him. He is now on a year out, and is now setting up a platform to inspire lost gap year students to make the right decisions for their future. He is also in employment where he is serving the locals (and himself) at local pub, and is disciplined and confident to pursue and progress his dreams with flying and travel. Heres to Daniels improved health and continued personal success.
