I dont want to seem insensitive, but here is the deal. When I published Broken, I had no money...like my mom was loading about $100 into my Pay Pal via a Money Pak for food for my family of 4. When I called my dad to ask for help, I said, I have two hundred people on my page that seem interested in the book. If half buy it, I think I can pay you back for the $250 I need to borrow to have the book edited and formatted in two months. Ill pay you interest. Please. Let me say that the editing job I got was not good. Im pretty sure I sent the book to her in better shape than it came back. The formatting was fantastic. Regardless, its hard to imagine being in too much of a worse place financially than where I was when I published. House was in foreclosure. Car was on the verge of repossession. A different story is how we were able to save all that because way more than 200 people bought that book, but at any rate... I get not everyone has parents to help them when they go through a rough time, but my point in this post is that its really unprofessional to ask that your colleagues fund your book. Its also ridiculous to think that you need $6000 to fund your book project. A top notch editor is probably no more than $1000. A cover designer (Im one if you need one) is around $250. A formatter (I do that too, now) at $250. Tour company around $250, which I also think is probably relatively high. I just dont get the math. If you dont have the money now, maybe you have to wait and save up until you get to a point to where you do. Just please think twice before starting campaigns asking your fellow writers, who are the only ones who understand your struggle because we also live it, to fund your dream.
