I drove home late last night, and as I passed through central Claremont, I saw a bouncer beating someone up. He grabbed this person by the neck, pushed them into a corner and punched them repeatedly in the face with his fist. I couldnt believe what I was seeing, on a busy street, with other people just standing around watching. I drove towards the pavement where this was happening - hooting. I had stopped in the middle of an intersection, so when he screamed back at me to go away and mind my own business, and other cars started hooting at me to get out of their way, I had to drive on. I couldnt bring myself to just drive away and do nothing. An hour later, I had achieved nothing - other than to be repeatedly and aggressively screamed at by this man. I called the police and they came out and were very sweet, which I appreciated, but they could do nothing as the person who was attacked, had left before I got there. It had looked to me as if the person being beaten up, was a woman. Thats what distressed me even more. Apparently it wasnt - but it was certainly someone half the size of the bouncer. Does this really go on around us regularly? Is it really so normal that nobody there, even bats an eye? A beautiful young lady came up to me while I was in the midst of all this, and insisted I take a rose and soft toy that she was selling at the club (I assume.) Her little act of kindness and humanity, is what I choose to take away from this experience.
