I enjoyed this prayer. Repost from IMFL Page. Thank you. The Prayer from the Ironman Louisville Banquet by Ryan Althaus September 7, 2011 at 9:51am I am not going to ask any of you to bow your heads over your supper… but I am going to ask you to close your eyes as I read a little poem of a friend of mine that I modified… Your starting, darting, timing, climbing, stomping, romping, finding, winding, feeling, healing, learning, yearning, seething, breathing, burning, turning, steaming, dreaming, dipping, dripping, sensing, wincing, zipping, skipping, venting, squinting, winking, blinking, flinching, clinching, thinking, drinking, racing, pacing biking, swimming, meeting, greeting flying, dreaming, waving, craving heating, fleeting, hearing, nearing, humming, numbing, giving living praying… running. Yes, we are a different breed of people in this room… we are the wanderers… we are the determined, us ironpeople… we are the ones that will not settle for the status quo, the ones that see life as a playground, a mission field, a physical, emotional, and spiritual test… and sitting in this room, we are the ones that ace it. We are the ones that are not afraid to skinny-dip in the fountain of life. We have church on Sunday… our pew is a finally fitted bike saddle on a carbon fiber seat post. We don’t open our bibles and read words off a page; we lace our shoes and live the spirit. Heaven for us is an eternal runners high, a heartbeat of 190, the taste of salty sweat from on our lips. We don’t “do” religion, we live our religion. Thank you God for giving us strength… for giving us passion, for giving us something to overcome and the will to overcome it. Thank you for giving us fellowship on our quest and 140.6 miles of open road and river to live out our dreams…. Yes God, you are with us throughout this our race, you are the salt of life, and you’re in our sweat, our blood, and our tears. Sunday, that’s your day… that’s our day… God let everyone in this room know that they have your spirit inside of them. Let this group not merely believe in you… it is not enough to believe in God, that won’t get you through this race. It is time for a revolution, an awakening, let everyone in this room from this day forward believe not simply in a distant God… but believe in a God that believes in US, that lives in us! Yes thank you God for the opportunity to walk on water Sunday morning… because through the Christ within we have no worldly bounds… Thank you for this food, beautiful weather, our supporters, volunteers, and families. And finally God …thank you for our Smoking Hot Bikes. And all God’s triathletes said AMEN GODSPEED MY FRIENDS… And I’ll see you Sunday Morning!
