I entered a short I made a good 15 years ago called Hungry Jesus in a festival recently and included my artists statement: My screen based works are a disquisition on our shared narratives which seeks to unravel the threads of visual discourse by mediating clichés through a retro-nostalgic lens.With influences as diverse as Bogdanovic, H.G. Lewis, Nick Z and Bava, new variations are created from both simple and complex meanings and since childhood I have been fascinated by the theoretical limits of relationships. What starts out as vision soon becomes corroded into a manifesto of greed, leaving only a sense of nihilism and the chance of a new understanding.As shifting forms become clarified through studious and academic practice, the viewer is left with an epitaph for the possibilities of our existence. They asked me to re-write it.
