I feel sad to see a child beaten like an animal,,,, It is 9.00pm at a village in Rift Valley Province in Kenya, a young boy aged 9 years has sought refuge at Nicodemus house. He looks gloomy, has a wound on the head which was hit by a blunt object and the right wrist is deeply cut and bleeding profusely. On that particular night, the boy’s mother Jane had beat him on allegations that a particular piece of metal had disappeared from the house. Nicodemus asks the counselors on actions that can be taken to punish the abusive mother. The counselor informs him that he should seek medical attention to save the child’s health first and then report at the police post which was near the home. With the help of the area chief, this was done and the mother was summoned at the police station. Nicodemus was cooperative and he gave the us the OB number of the case and with that several follow ups were done by the children’s officer and the helplines legal team. The boy’s mother was summoned and she has never been beaten him since that time.The social workers made frequent visits to the home to ensure he is safe and the mother informed of alternative discipline measures to take in the future.
