I feel the need to write this after hearing and reading so many comments regarding the closing of the skatepark. I normally stay clear of my personal views but I feel the need to say a few things. First I feel by closing the park on a temporary basis is a good thing. Parents should be relieved that the town is taking such a proactive approach to dealing with this issue, that we are not sweeping it under the rug and hoping that it will go away.. I know that 95 percent of the users of this park truly enjoy it and to see so many children outside participating in physical activity it what makes my job worthwhile. I will not stand back and let a small percentage of people take away that feeling of safety for the other users. There is a problem in our community but we are no different than any other place with the difference being we are fighting back. This will be a park that parents will feel safe to let their kids visit and if security cameras and increased police presence is what it will take to show the small percentage of users we are not going to sit back and let them win I say perfect. I had one parent call me today to say "thank you for not backing down and pretending this is not happening". This closure is short term but it is to ensure safety for everyone. I encourage anyone around to report anything as we can only act on what we are told. I also encourage parents to talk to their children about the dangers not just at our park but everywhere as we all need to fight back and win this battle
