I felt it was important to explain NLWS stand on bird rehabilitation. We have specialized in mammals and our buildings and enclosures are build for mammals not birds. We occasionally take in birds of prey, because we have access to some suitable aviaries for short time periods. Song birds and other birds need lots of care, special feed and special housing. There are terrific knowledgeable bird shelters in BC and we feel referring people to such shelters is more beneficial to the animal than us trying to wing it. Animal care is a great responsibility and should only be attempted if one has the knowledge and ability and we feel we lack both where birds are concerned. However we are always willing to help with transport and as a point of contact.
