I finally watched Amazing Spider-Man 2 and, well.... I really like Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, and Emma Stone is great as Gwen Stacey - the two of them together onscreen are electric - I just wish they were in a better movie. The script is a mess that aims to wrap up the unneeded mystery of what happened with Peters parents (hint: no one cares), while giving us a main villain whose motives *could* have worked if they hadnt fallen into Saturday Morning Cartoon-Land; the idea of an outsider looking for connection and meaning is a good one, but barely used and then thrown away in ASM2. They then throw in a secondary villain because everyone really wanted to see Green Goblin again? (or is it Hobgoblin in this one - who knows, who cares!) And this is only after completely wasting Chris Cooper in shadows and video playback. But hey, there are things that work - the aforementioned chemistry between the leads, which adds real weight to the climax of the film despite the general bullshittery of the script, some fun and inventive action scenes (though a tad cartoony), some good Spider-Man moments as he deals with regular people and street level criminals, and a really nice scene between Peter and Aunt May (Sally Field). So in the end it is decently watchable, but also completely missable if you are not a die-hard Spidey fan/completist/nerd. (Why didnt he web a net? Because duh, velocity. I thought Peter was a science nerd?) youtu.be/NBYKwkrqL18
