I find it disturbing that in a world where we still have starvation and poverty, we have a culture that specifically breeds pumpkins to be inedible to humans and the majority of the crop is used to carve decorations that people then get upset about if animals try to eat them and are then tossed in the garbage when they start to rot. Think about the resources that go into such a pointless act. The origins of this tradition were based in people carving turnips, which while still edible is still a much smaller waste of food and resources. I was happy when my little mini pumpkins were eaten by squirrels because then something g was actually getting nourishment from them... And then I found that the seeds had started to grow the next season and I grew my own mini pumpkins for the next year. I just dont get the whole tradition... It seems !like such a waste.
