I find the Sony leaks to be interesting, not just for the sensationalist and juicy gossip, but for how it reveals the humanity (and all the flaws that come along with it) of high-level behind-the-scenes film industry management. Some correspondences are clearly unkind, where others might have some wiggle room for grey area in light of context despite the sensationalism. Nonetheless, they are those of executives fighting tooth and nail for their stakes in various battles. I cant say, for example, that I entirely disagree with the observation about Adam Sandlers more recent films being flat, however humbling such a remark might be to him. Im sure I will come to learn more about other Sony leaks as time goes on, but Im actually more interested in the non-sensationalist correspondences that show how successful deals are made behind the scenes, how negotiations are made on the top level, things that go even further beyond underscoring just how unimportant a screenplays font is. (but please still dont use Comic Sans) Among the leaks is one regarding Angelina Jolie. The correspondence outlines a battle for a resource (namely director David Fincher) that ultimately found his way to the upcoming Steve Jobs film, rather than Angelina Jolies proposed Cleopatra film. Amidst the thread of debate, one exchange angrily characterizes her as minimally talented and a Spoiled Brat. Now comes December, and the upcoming release of Jolies film, Unbroken. Its not her directorial debut, but might easily be her most visible contribution in that role since. Critics are liking it and at least where the trailers are concerned, so am I. This is definitely not the work of someone minimally talented or spoiled. Ive always enjoyed a good war movie, something with spirit, and while many of you already know this, I was once a long distance runner before becoming the lump of mashed potato you see before you when we meet in public. For these reasons, Unbroken has a personal appeal to me, hearkening to the spirit of persistence, of hope, of valor, and the heart of a champion within each of us. See you at the movies. https://youtube/watch?v=ebHji2c_ciU
