I flew to the US (Business Class) 7 times last year. Virgin Australia announced today that theyll be removing their direct flights from Melbourne to LA - meaning for me to fly to the US, I now have to take a domestic flight to Brisbane or Sydney first, adding hours to my flight. So I looked into other options. And it turns out that Fiji Airways will fly me to Fiji, I can spend a few days there and then fly direct to LA - and that leg only takes 10 hours. After a weekend in Fiji! When combined with the fact that Ive noticed a significant drop in the level of Virgin Australias service over the last year, this has become a no-brainer. (I suspect a flight with Fijian staff will be the GREATEST SERVICE IN THE WORLD) Ill miss my Virgin Platinum points - but Fiji share with Qantas, so I guess Ill get status and reward points there. Way to lose my business, Virgin. Kind of a dumb move.
