I found this today - a memorial in Projection, Lights, and Staging News ... In Memoriam: John LaBriola, 40 YORKTOWN, NY - John LaBriola, an LD, lighting director, production designer and programmer for a long list of artists and major tours, including Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers, died April 24, 2014. He had just turned 40 a month earlier. LaBriola, who had been involved in lighting and production design since 1990, handled production design, lighting design and/or programming for tours supporting Patti LaBelle (1990s), Boys II Men (1998), Vanessa Williams (1999), Mary K. Blige (Love & Life and The Breakthrough; 2003-2004), Backstreet Boys (Never Gone; 2005-2006), The Jonas Brothers (2007-2010) and Demi Lovato (2009-2011). Along with key roles lighting elaborate tours such as Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 (2010-2011) LaBriola took charge in quirkier treks including Charlie Sheen’s Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat Is Not an Option (2011). He has also lit Blink 182 and Angels & Airwaves since 2011 and served as lighting director for Chris Brown’s Fortune world tour (Oct. 2012-Jan. 2013) and as lighting director/programmer for How to Destroy Angels (March 2013-May 2013). Most recently, along with Bruno Mars, the Halftime Show headliner for 2014’s Super Bowl in East Rutherford, NJ, LaBriola added French alt rockers Phoenix (2014) to his roster of lighting credits. Survivors in LaBriola’s immediate family include his wife, Ellen; daughter, Sophie; sister, Joyce; mother, Flora DeFilippo; father and stepmother Pete and Cheryl LaBriola; mother-in-law Eleanor Bortone; and brothers-in-law John Gitto and Mark Scholz. Services will be held May 4 at from 2 to 6 p.m. at Yorktown Funeral Home (yorktownfuneralhome/directions).
