New health risk found with high levels of Arsenic in rice, especially brown rice. It was found that the southwest region rice soil has a higher level of natural arsenic and it is being absorbed in the skin of the rice. After testing it was shown that a normal daily serving of rice had an arsenic level 2 times higher than the safe weekly allowance. Dont worry you dont have to stop eating rice but what you should know is basmati rice white and brown has the lowest levels of arsenic. Also to decrease the amounts of arsenic in the rice you already have, rinse it very well before you cook it. And when you cook it do so like you are cooking pasta and add 2 cups of additional water and when the rice is done then drain the excess water which will rinse a large amount of the arsenic away. The FDA does not force any rice product to indicate the level of arsenic that is in them. Even rice milk can contain arsenic. Do some research and become better informed. Arsenic can cause diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Think about all the rice the American public has consumed and then look at the increase in diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. There has to be some correlation!
