I found who said it and where I saw it. The irony is, that some people say the scene was taken from a comic HE wrote. But this relentless cynicism of, “Oh, I’m a superhero, what a tortured tragic figure I am.” Bite me, you can fly. Shut up. You know? This is the, “Oh, my diamond shoes are too tight” problem. (Laughs) You’re a superhero. Shut up and enjoy having superpowers. This makes me crazy. This is why the Marvel movies kick DC movies’ asses right and left. Because, I’m not paying $15 for a movie to go watch people being morose about lives that are much more interesting and exciting than mine and they hate them. I’m paying my money to see people sort of revel in doing things that I can’t do. Its like he closed his eyes when what he is describing he wishes had happened in the movie ACTUALLY did happen IN the movie. I think the problem is this notion that unless the entire movie follows that pattern, that note, if you will, then its a failure. I prefer to think of the movie as a symphony, with highs, lows, inbetweens, etc, rather than expect the whole thing from start to finish to be limited to a single note. There have to be Dos, and Res, and Mis, and Fas, and Sos, and Las, and Tis, and Dos. It cant all just be set to the one most positive note we find comforting. Start watching the video below at the 55 second mark and you will in fact see a superhero who enjoys having superpowers. denofgeek.us/books-comics/mark-waid/235981/mark-waid-talks-thrillbent-empire-daredevil-and-more
