I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves. - Harriet Tubman. Understand that at one time slavery was the law. slave plantations had laws. slavery started and ended in the Mind- the chains ,although physical, were also strongly embedded in our mental being and until we all understand that in order to not be opressed we must make the oppressors hear us and feel the true seriousness of our tone... If we dont fight, then we will continue to be bound. Not all laws or rules are good laws or rules. Sometimes bad laws and bad rules like chains may need to be broken in order to attain true freedom. Understand that it was those like Harriet Tubman that broke the plantations laws and ultimately freed slaves. When Frederick Douglass read a word he broke the law. When Rosa sat she broke the law. When Martin Marched he broke the laws. No check can buy you freedom. no degree can block bullets for your sons. no loans will give you liberty... It is impossible for someone to give you equal rights because it would mean that someone had power that you did not have and gave you something that they can also take from you. equal power cannot be taken from you but in order to receive it- You must take it. During the civil rights movement, many black folk discouraged those that were disobeying the laws of segregation in order to pursue change. They feared what would happen if the boat was rocked... Today many of us are glad the boat was rocked. Well now its time to rock the boat again, while resistance in the form of rioting and looting may not be your cup of tea, understand that for some, their passion and energy is all they can give for change. They may not have the money for economic boycott so walmart wasnt getting their money anyway. But if you have money you can bypass Black Friday by boycotting and even support protestors by donating to the cause instead. Frederick Douglass, who was not afraid to rock the boat, once stated, Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe. Understand that protest & resistance comes in many forms... Even the American Revolution began with Rioting and Looting - they called it the Boston Tea Party. Today... Many of the people speaking out against this very same form of protest refer to themselves as the Tea Party. Isnt that ironic? This is a FIGHT a real FIGHT for our lives... When you are fighting for your life you dont fight fair... You fight to live. One final question... Understand that this fight will persist until real change comes in this place and people are truly free and if this is to be the case... Which side of history will you stand on? Will you be those who discouraged the fighters... Or those that fought alongside them... In whatever way YOU could? #ferguson #mikebrown #iftheygunnedmedown #every28hours
