I get so tired of hearing about how karaoke is ruining live music. They are two totally different types of entertainment. True karaoke is more cost effective, but if a band draws, theres work available for them. Seriously, do you blame the gun, or the person shooting it? Dont blame the type of entertainment, blame the people who are too cheap to put out a couple dollars at the door to hear good music so that a band can be paid what they are worth. Blame American Idol and other shows that focus on nothing but the vocals. Blame the number of people that even support the bar business anymore. Blame the smoking ban. If a bar can only pull an $800 night with a band, the bar hasnt made anything. If a dj does it, they have. And I love how everyone blames the art of karaoke. Most place I do anymore involves little karaoke, and I mostly play dj music. Dj music has been around forever. One last thing, no matter which type of entertainment you do, its all about interactions with the people you entertain and how you take care of your clients, and fellow musicians/djs. These are things folks like Wright, Hansen, Ramser, Cook, and dj Doyle need to work on to keep from burning every bridge they cross.
