I got a private confession message last night from a friend who lives in Fannin County. Bear with me. I will explain but I must first tell you some stuff. Dave practiced law over there in Bonham for over 30 years and I moved over there when he and I married . We lived in the country for 16 years until we returned to my hometown, Paris, in 2007. I drove back and forth to Paris most every day since my office was based here and my mother and I were partners. While living in the country, Dave and I loved to entertain. We had many parties and enjoyed every one of them. For several years, we hosted a party in honor of the public servants in the county. It was our way of thanking our law enforcement, fire departments and any and all public servent. Each year it grew by leaps and bounds. It became known as the Cop Party. There were very few Christmases that we didnt have some sort of soiree. And there were other parties interspersed celebrating birthdays, Super Bowls, New Years Eve, political candidate fund-raisers and anything we could think of to celebrate. One year, an entire city council from one of the small towns in Fannin County all came together in a van. I wont name the town in an effort not to incriminate anyone. They came and ate and drank (evidently lots) and had themselves a big time. I had placed two HUGE gold wreaths at the gate at the entrance to our residence. They were beautiful and, as I recall, quite expensive. The city council group, as they were leaving, decided they liked those wreaths so they just stole them. Yep! Ripped them right off the gate. The next day, I got a call from the mayor of said little town, sheepishly confessing to me that he and his group had stolen the wreaths and that he would bring them back that afternoon. On another occasion, this time the Cop Party, a well-known man in the community had quite an argument with his wife. She was asking him to go home because he had imbibed in the flowing libations to the point he was embarrassing her. She finally got in their car and left him there, stranded without a vehicle. I went to the garage to get something and realized that my BRAND NEW Cadillac was missing. At that time, cell phones were attached to the car and so I called my number and the overly-intoxicated husband who had been stranded ANSWERED my phone. If you know me, you can only imagine the tongue lashing I gave that poor man. He still turns red in the face when he sees me. My step-son and a friend went to the mans house and retrieved my car and luckily it was unharmed. Soooooooooo, this brings me to the confession message I received last night from my Fannin County friend. It read: I have a confession to make to you~I had so much fun at one of those Cop parties at yalls place~I took one of those NICE signs that said COP PARTY with an arrow!!! I kept it for years. Of course I dont have it now or I would return it!!! I got the wreaths back. I got my car back. But that nice sign? Never saw it again. Should I report her to the authorities?
