I got into a conversation tonight with A frequent regular at my bar. He expressed his disappoint with the policing in his neighborhood in Harlem because of a tragic corrupt case that occurred earlier this year. This case resulted in the death of his best friend, due to unfair illegal actions by local authorities. He kept saying how he felt like no one cared. As he continued to reveal details of the case..... It hit me. This was the case we studied in my senior seminar class at john jay. I happened to have the article in my backpack. As I pulled it out he had tears in his eyes. The only thing I could say was more people are on your side than you know. For all the students at john jay, our studies matter to our community than we know. So never stop being passionate. Because today.... Today reminded me why I study criminal justice.
