I grew up believing the primary reason Jesus came was to be a sacrifice in my place, besides the weird and distorted image of the Father this created it instilled a basic model that sacrifice is the way of the kingdom, so it was easy to spend myself sacrificing anything valuable for my idea of Gods pleasure...it is a subtle trap and almost ALL churches thrive on this model just look at the volunteer rate of exchange...but Hebrews makes it clear God did not want a sacrifice. This thinking begins to color everything, from demanding people praise every Sunday morning as a sacrifice to God, to tithes and offerings down to sacrificing life for the church...but what if God truly never wanted a sacrifice as scripture clearly states? What if Jesus is a one-off that was meant to end the entire sacrifice model, the end of the Temple model would indicate this is so...and when Paul goes with the religious pressure and sacrifices in the Temple it creates a huge problem...and I wonder how many of the sacrifice crowd were shouting kill? Sacrifice is over. Stop it. God is not expecting you to give up your life so that something is traded and He can manifest...you do not need to open up heaven, or cry out for more...either He has come or he has not...make up your mind.
