I guess you heard the sad story about the Washington Navy Yard. I - TopicsExpress

I guess you heard the sad story about the Washington Navy Yard. I was in the yard two weeks ago visiting my Navy Cups that are in the Submarine exhibit in the Naval Heritage Section of the yard. Remember the ones we had on the Cape with the blue rings. I worked on this at Smithsonian and also was part of the crew that set it up as a permanent exhibit in the Yard at the Cold War Gallery. When you come into the yard from the M Street gate you have to pass down the Street in front of building 197. My friends and I did not eat at our favorite cafeteria across from the building where some of the panic was wide spread. We went over to one of our haunts in Arlington instead. They just announced that the death toll is up to 12. The nut cake major of FT. Hood killed 13 and that is the worst disaster in military history. If it goes higher this wonderful meeting place in D.C. between the Navy and the people we serve will not be the same. The Washington Nationals play in their new stadium on land that was part of the yard years ago and is just on the puerperal of the Yard. The Navy provides an outdoor venue for the neighborhood to have concerts and festivals. I sincerely hope this does not change.
