I had a vendor from the home and garden show cold call me two years later and considering Im interested in their product...I said sure come give me a price. I want to upgrade my kitchen. So they came over and sure enough, I love their ideas and my kitchen would look fantastic. However, the price is important...so the first price was pretty high and we kept talking and then he offered a discount, then he could see I was a hard sell so he threw in some additional work and and again reduced his price $800. So it looked better but in the back of my mind I know hes trying to play me since he could have given me this price since he walked in. So I said i am interested but I need time to think about and make a decision. He said if we leave today, then this price goes away and he crossed out the bottom number. He said that is a discount we give for same day, we have to reallocate resources, I would have to drive back here, and that time could be spent with another customer. I said so you are telling me that a tank of gas and an hour of your time is worth $800?! What about my hour what is that worth??? Because last I checked, you guys called me. So he tried to get out of his hole. I said the more you speak the more of used car sales man you sound. For today only, act fast because we will throw in shipping and handling for $9.99...he smiled embarrassingly. Dont try to play me for a fool. If you are going to threaten me with your pricing, then you dont want my business. If you dont honor your price, Im sure your competitor will. I said when I call you back, I expect that bottom number. If I dont get it, then you dont want my business. He did his song and dance and left with no sale. I do want to upgrade my kitchen but Im not going to impulsively sign a contract because some guy is pressuring me. I dont know many people who will spend that kind of money on impulse. I want this In my own time, under my terms...thank you very much.
