I had a very stressful day today. Talked to a friend yesterday who had made the decision to put her dog of 16 years to sleep. So I gave her a couple of vets numbers and asked if she wanted me there. She said yes, please. So it was just her and me and her dog for an hour and a half before the vet came. We cried, we laughed, we petted and got licked and petted some more. This dog has sailed around the world with her on a large yacht, lives(ed) on a multi acre homesite with pools, gardens, lawns, and several other animals to keep her company....she had a great life which is why she lived so long, she was a large breed. I stayed until I had helped the vet carry her outside, we kissed and hugged and I left. It was like putting down one of my own. I am heartbroken and yet grateful and glad for the glorious life she lived. She went swimming for the last time in the pool yesterday....her tail was still wagging, her eyes were soft and bright, she still had a smile, but she was in great pain from cancer, water retention and hip dysplasia...it was time.....so until the Rainbow Bridge, happy trails sweetee! After that I picked up another friend who is fresh out of rehab and drove her to a meeting....Im glad I went, I needed it....
