I had planned to wait 24 hours before I made any additional political statements, but I feel that I must speak out immediately about my partys Gubernatorial nominee. I openly supported John McKamey for Governor because I believed that he had the experience and qualifications to be Governor due to his service as County Mayor in Sullivan County. He also spoke out forcefully about the issues, including womens rights and LGBT rights. He was also endorsed fairly early by the AFL-CIO because of his stance in support of workers. Unfortunately, Mr. McKamey lost last night. Now, I am used to supporting candidates who lose. It goes with the territory when you are active in politics. But this is not about sour grapes. I refuse to support a candidate who opposes the Constitutional separation of church and state, supports the death penalty, and is functionally illiterate. I ran for the Executive Committee because of the Mark Clayton fiasco two years ago, and here we are again. As a member of both the Davidson County Democratic Executive Committee, and on the Board of the Davidson County Democratic Women, I swore oaths not to oppose Democrats in contested elections. I am, therefore, risking my seats in both organizations when I say DO NOT VOTE FOR CHARLIE BROWN. Join me in supporting either Independent John Jay Hooker (who is a 2-time nominee and actually runs on Democratic Party values) or Dr. Isa Infante, the Green Party nominee. There are times when principle must trump party labels, and this is one of those times. Good grief!
