I had some interesting thoughts in the shower. Where is my A - TopicsExpress

I had some interesting thoughts in the shower. Where is my A Bug’s Life sequel? picture this: Flick’s ingenuity has benefited the whole colony (and he’s been granted special recognition by the new queen, Dot). They live a prosperous, happy life and we see that on the surface not much about their hill has change, but underneath is a bevy of miniature industrial equipment running on steam (thanks to Flick). Some roaches (law enforcement) show up and play good cop/bad cop with Flick, ultimately warning him to stop producing these contraptions lest he face the wrath of Flea Corp (get it? they run a flea market hueahuehauheau). Bam! Now the movie is tackling serious issues like intellectual property. But it would also introduce us to the rest of the insect world (or at least more of it). We know that the insects have a sense of entrepreneurial spirit - there are mosquitos running bars catering to grasshopper gangs, a flea running a circus, catering to flies and other bugs. A sequel would give Pixar a chance to explore more aspects of their world, including industrialization within the colony, as well as urbanization in this new setting in which Flea Corp is headquartered. So Queen Dot runs into trouble, turns out the colony is actually bankrupt despite all of their surplus food. Apparently being extorted by a criminal gang of grasshoppers left the coffers a little empty and now the gig is up. literally Flea Corp actually owns the hill, including the ant farm and threatens the colony with eviction. Fleas actually run the financial world of the insects, and we see nods to their expansive real estate endeavors with cheeky references to Wall Street. They deal primarily in access to pristine animal hosts (especially pets cohabiting with humans) and along the way they started dealing in real property (land) too. Viola! a whole new antagonist a step up from the first movie’s gang of thieves. Now we have a “legitimate” gang of thieves, a central financial and governing authority. WHERE IS MY SEQUEL? Flick and pals ultimately get the upper hand via the powers of crowdsourcing and freedom of information and voluntary market interaction after he reaches out to other disparate ant colonies also facing Flea Corps injustice. They come together utilizing Flick’s brilliant, open-source technology (which Flea Corp wanted to monopolize) and bring down the corrupt bureaucracy which enables the corporation.
