I had the privilege of traveling once again to Aroostook County, - TopicsExpress

I had the privilege of traveling once again to Aroostook County, Maine, in the far northern part of the state, to deliver 2 training sessions to audiences that included educators, police officers and firefighters, case managers, child protective investigators, nurses and even a dental office! It was truly a community-wide effort that was made possible by the joint sponsorship of RSU 39, led by Karla Michaud, Cary Medical Center, and the Caribou Police and Fire Departments. That true sense of community is something I always feel so strongly whenever I visit the county. It is that kind of effort that gives me great confidence that many of the autism safety initiatives that we strongly urge communities to put together- such as registration programs, wandering response teams and community days to bring together first responders and persons with autism- will happen here. After the second session, we had a brainstorming session during which the Caribou Police expressed their intention to begin a registration program, in partnership with the local school district, and the area schools discussed planning a community day for the spring time. Thank you Aroostook County for your warm hospitality, and your passion for keeping people affected by Autism safe. I love you guys!
