I had to eat a big slice of humble pie today over a quote that a friend posted that I read but misunderstood. Heres the thing too....I must have read it over 5 times before I responded, but when I came back later and read it again after a fellow responder posted under my post and asked if we were even reading the same thing (because my response was inappropriately presumptuous and totally missing the point) I realized my error. How could I have not read it in that light before when it was so very plain to me NOW? I then felt God was trying to show me something very valuable.....perceptions from preconceived notions that are based on your own experiences....mostly negative ones, but even positive and neutral ones too....can color your judgement and make you see everything in THAT light. You may say...well DUH....most people know that, but how often do we do that everyday and not even know we are doing it? I am embarrassed to admit that I sounded somewhat defensive because I thought I saw what I saw. Its easier to do that on FB especially, because written words can appear much different than spoken words and can be taken many ways sometimes. BUT.....even more than that, God showed me that to be slow to speak and quick to listen is Christianity 101 and it is LOVE 101 as well. If one other person reads this today and gets an epiphany like I did then maybe its a good thing to tell the world that I was a jerk!! We need to stop, look, and mostly LISTEN and LOVE....
