I have SCA8 Ataxia. Everyone has heard of MS and Parkinsons. But, not too many have ever heard of Ataxia. My symptoms are like having both MS and Parkinsons all rolled into one. And, whoa la...thats Ataxia. I have the no. 8. There are many numbers and they are discovering more and more. I had the extensive testing done through Athena. The only DNA testing facility in the US. Some day I hope they will find a cure. It wont be in my life time. But, I hope for my future family members and their children they do. I can pass this off to my off spring and my nieces and their children. It can skip generations. It is quite complex. I have it and it may have been passed to my daughter or it may skip her and show up in her grandchildren. And, same goes to my other relatives. When my time on earth is done...I will donate my body to the NAF, so they can help find a cure. There are so many others out there just like me. But, being from a small town, I never knew what I had wrong with me. Not, until I was sent to Pittsburgh. Doctors around here just would not take the time to help me and order tests after tests to rule out things and find out things. But, Dr. Basor. Did test after test on me 5 years ago. I had to know. I was even her subject at an Neurological Convention. And, she was the one that ordered the complete Ataxia panel on me. I had to have a name to place on what I had.
