I have a lot of respect for Bill Maher but if any of you watched his show this past Friday you saw him get into a brouhaha with Ben Affleck over the classification of the Muslim population of the world as largely evil. He was helped along by author guest and fellow atheist, Sam Harris. Bill Maher has become what I detest in fringe or fanatical Christians, Muslims or any other religion you can come up with. He has become a zealous atheist and is intolerant of anyone who does not share in his own belief system. He doesnt even realize that he himself has become what he finds ridiculous and stupid, narrow-minded and inflexible. He has become that person who thinks he is the only one who is absolutely correct about the lack of a Creator based on nothing but his own surety that one does not exist. When I hear him speak this way he sounds awfully like those same religious people he detests who look down on others who believe differently or who do not believe at all. In this respect, Maher is a big disappointment. To condemn an entire culture based on a minority of violent lunatics is disheartening to say the least. To hear Bill Maher do it publicly is downright sad.
