I have a question for any economists and local council experts out - TopicsExpress

I have a question for any economists and local council experts out there - and anyone else who might have a view on this. If I were a local council, is there any reason why I couldnt/shouldnt do the following: 1) give council employees their current pay in pounds. 2) give them additional pay in a local/town currency created by the council. 3) say that anyone in the town can pay a certain portion - say, up to 10% - of their council tax in the local currency. 4) say that people can pay for parking tickets and other council paid for services (hiring the town hall, for eg) in local currency. 5) support local businesses to set up supply chains with people in their area, so they can buy things in local currency. I suppose my point is, what role could local currencies have in mitigating local government funding cuts? Maybe Ann Pettifor James Meadway Peter McColl Maggie Chapman Craig Simmons Elise Benjamin Sam Hollick Alex Wood Alex Phillips will have thoughts? thanks.
