I have always lived a law abiding life. My goal has always been to - TopicsExpress

I have always lived a law abiding life. My goal has always been to stay within the legal boundaries and support and respect the local authoriities. The temptation to veer outside those legal boundaries is always present and sometimes those wayward journeys tend to catch up to you. Case in point....I was driving home last night from Caysons baseball game in Booneville and had just entered the city limits of Tupelo. I noticed 2 Tupelo City Police cars in a parking lot as I passed by but really thought nothing of it. After all, Im a law abiding citizen. In my rear view mirror, I noticed one of the patrol cars pulled into traffic behind me. Again, I did not give it a second thought. I made a left turn, careful to use my turn signal. The police car made the same left turn. I made another left turn and again, the police car followed suit. As I drove straight on the city street, I was careful to stay within the speed limit but I was never concerned that my sordid past would come back to haunt me. Just then, the blue lights came on. Several hasty thoughts raced through my mind as I pulled over and stopped. I lowered my window as my eyes tried to adjust to the brilliance of the blue flashing lights. I saw the silhouette of the officer as he approached my car. His flashight beam probed the rear interior of my car as he began to address me. The conversation went as follows: Policeman: Good evening, Sir Me: Good evening, Officer Policeman: Where have you been, sir? Me: To Booneville. I watched my son play a baseball game. Policeman: Really? What position does he play? Me: Well, tonight he played shortstop. Policeman: Where are you going, Sir? Me: Im going home. Policeman: Can I see your license and insurance? Now at this point, as I produced the requested information, I was wondering just what my crime was. And then, I found out. Policeman: The reason I stopped you, Mr. Watkins, is that your tag light is out. You might want to get that fixed. Me: Yes Sir, Ill get that taken care of. The policeman bid me a good night, I did the same to him and we went on our way. I havent fixed the tag light yet and it may be a couple of days before I do. I think I like living on the wide side!!!
