I have been a Ravens fan since 1995 (it was the first weekend of November when they announced the move from Cleveland). In their first seasons at Memorial Stadium I had five seats. I went to every game but could not give my extra seats away. The stadium was seldom full. Simply the Ravens were a joke to many but not me. In 99 – 00 they became a winning team and in doing so won the hearts of the city and much of the state. I spell this out because my thoughts in the Ray Rice situation come from a fan who has history with this team. Ray Rice should have been suspended for 4 to 6 games. Not because he is league problem, but because he isnt a league problem. The NFL had the opportunity to send a message to all men who are violent toward other people especially woman. As for Roger Godell’s explanation that it was Mrs. Rice’s impassioned plea that motivated a two game suspension, ‘ hello mr. Commissioner! its called the cycle of abuse.’ No I dont think that Ray Rice is a serial abuser; but many NFL players are and their wives and girlfriends cant be encouraged to make pleas for leniency thus perpetuating the problem. I suggest the NFL put away their Pink marketing gimmick in October and get serious on what is a chronic problem in the NFL.
