I have been getting a lot of messages from people requesting signed paperbacks, and Im very humbled that my readers want to own signed copies of my books. More than 90% of my readers are from the US or UK. I know the postage from here to there is expensive but the majority of you are understanding and okay with that. It blows me away that youd spend more money on the postage than the actual cost of the book. I did however get a message from someone today asking what I charge for signed copies. When I told them the price of postage they said that I was a rip off. 😳 So, I just want to clarify, I dont make any money on the postage. I take the books to the Post Office, have them weighed and they tell me what the shipping costs are throughout the world. I get the books printed through createspace, which is owned by Amazon and based in the US. The last shipment I got was 150 books and the shipping I paid on that was $305 US, which is around $360 Australian dollars. Createspace charge me per page for printing. The bigger the book, the more it costs. My books range for $5 US - $7 US per book to print. I have to pay Australian dollars so its more. When Im posting out my signed copies, I pay for the post bag ($1.35) out of my own pocket. I add signed bookmarks and postcards, that I pay for, again out of my own pocket. At the end of the day, Im lucky to make $2 - $3 per book. I do this as a service to my readers, nothing more. So please think twice before making hurtful and unfounded accusations. Rant over!
