I have been given the number 8... 1. I was painfully shy as a child. It has taken me most of my 45 years to overcome it. I feel that I missed out on so much in life because of my shyness. I worked in sales for much of my career, which you would think would have been my turning point, but becoming the mother of an outgoing child is what really brought me out of my shell. I have Sam Patterson to thank. He not only is one of the greatest gifts in my life, but he has taught me that you are not truly living until you open yourself up to the wonderful people you come in contact with daily. 2. I secretly would love to become a writer. My favorite writers were humorists. I have always enjoyed writing about the funny things that happen in life. I truly believe that laughter is the best medicine. My grandfather Sam was a legendary storyteller. He instilled in me the love of sharing funny stories with others. I won a full scholarship to UTM with a story that I wrote, as a tale of Tom Sawyer, that was based on a story my Grandfather told about sending his cousin, who had night blindness, to the barn one night to milk a bull. My Grandfather was quite a character! 3. In college, I was a member of the University Scholars program. I was the first University Scholar to do a senior project on fashion design. I grew up working hand in hand with my Mother designing most of the outfits I wore to dances and special occasions. In college, I would often whip up a new pair of pants one afternoon to wear on a date that night. 4. My children are both named after very special people in my life. Sam is named for my grandfather, Sam McElroy, who is one of the finest men to ever walk this earth. They have a lot in common. Sara Beths middle name is from my Grandmother Elizabeth, a strong willed woman who loved me with all her being, and Beth is from my best friend Beth Harding Corum who was another contributor to me overcoming my shyness. I love her like a sister. 5. I met my husband Andy at work. Our first kiss took place on his birthday. I knew from that moment we would get married. It was the most magical feeling. I love him more than words can express. 6. When we were younger, people would ask if my sister and I were twins. My father could never tell us apart on the telephone. We have our own context, and can often say one word, and know what the other is thinking, much like twins can. Ginger and I have the same work ethic, inherited from our father, which is both a blessing and a curse. Needless to say we dont sleep very much. 7. I dream in color, and can smell, taste, and feel in my dreams. I have often been to places for the first time, but recognize them from dreams that I have had in the past. This happened to me when I visited Scotland in college, and has happened to me several times on vacations to different places in the U.S. My dreams are episodic and often as detailed as a movie. I remember my dreams in detail, and often will flash back to an event from one of my dreams years later. 8. My father died in early December 2007. My sister had decorated the house in grand style for Christmas in early November in hopes of lifting our spirits through the difficult holidays. My Dad was bed ridden and did not get to see her work. Shortly before he died he wanted to get into his wheelchair and tour the house to see everything, but he was too weak. My cousin and I were in the kitchen on the morning he died and heard faint music in the other room. My Sisters Christmas carousel that was turned off had slowly started turning. It gave us cold chills, and to this day we believe it was his way of letting us know he had gotten to see the decorations.
