I have been troubled by people who I thought were friends but have been anything but. These are people who praise me in public but have been extremely negative about me in private. They text and private message lies about me and then act like they didnt. They do it because they feel insecure and they want to be important. I want to love everyone, but Im not sure that I like everyone. I know that sounds bad. We are to love our enemies. Yet in the Psalms, King David pleads with God often to make his enemies dissappear. To make them a footstool before him. So how do we love someone who we know hates us. First we offer ample opportunity and forgiveness to everyone. We all slip up and make mistakes. And that forgiveness means to move on and not to dwell on whatever offense has transpired. But then it happens again. And again. We have all had this happen. You hear Im sorry but you see the same thing over and over again. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. There it is. Avoid such people. Simple really. I can still love and even honor them by praying for them but avoiding them. Its still love. Its called tough love. And I give them over to God. Lord, today I pray for my enemies. I pray that You would open my heart to them and see them with your eyes. I pray that they would look into the mirror and see themselves with Your eyes. I know I see a great sinner in that mirror. A man full of wickedness that wants to honor You but falls so very short every day. I am angered by my sin and seek forgiveness and mercy from You first and others whom I have hurt. In Jesus Name
