I have heard the assertion, recently a lot, that poverty is a natural phenomenon, that it is a rung on the ladder of life, a niche in the food chain. An unavoidable or even necessary evil. For Society to prosper, someone has to do the drudgery, for next to nothing, and if they want to improve their life, they must acquire skills, and seek higher employment opportunities. Life is a race, and to the victor go the spoils. So all of you be damned, we cant have Heaven crammed. Feudalistic? I think so. I believe there is enough to go around, and still have wealthy people. I believe Frontiers can be tamed without Slavery and Indenture. But we have to get away from the idea that the bottom level of labor does not deserve a living. Or for that matter the Uber wealthy deserve what they have. Many of the richest people in the US inherited their money. Which they often use to divert our system to their purposes, while others, that made their own fortunes, are busy giving it away. The only way we will ever rise above the many troubles in the world and survive as a species, in a viable Ecosphere, will be to value each person, as well as the planet, and encourage and nurture them to maximize their potential as a part in a living, breathing organism that is the planet Earth.
