I have just watched the 4 Bourne films and Scorseses Shutter Island. The last of the Bourne franchise was a total wreck of the continuous plot and technique of the first three. I missed Damons innocent but sort of devilish look in the fourth. All first three ran on simple plots but toyed on exhaustive display of brute and conspiracies. Martins film on the other hand was en pointe. It was simple and complex at the same time. Simple if you are well-accustomed to how Scorsese handles his film like in Gangs of New York and his de Niro films. Youd think you know the plot but would be surprised at some point. Complex because it delves into the realm of the mind - a citadel of sorts - taking its strength from the complexity of the human psyche and eating up most of the viewers indiscretion. Not surprised that Leo did not get any awards for his acting, but he could have made my Most Improved from Commercial Debut list. Ben Kingsley was cunningly good here as support. The film made it to Berlinale, probably because of the Holocaust references as if Germany can use this as atonement. #FeelingFilmCritic
