I have known & worked with Mayor Bruce Hagen during his first 3 terms of office from 1975-87 during which time I served as the District 18 (Billings Park) Douglas County Board Supervisor. In my experience, Superior has never had as good a Mayor as Mayor Hagen. It was the vision and tenacity of Hagen that converted a useless semi-swamp man-made dredge spoil island into the spell-binding Barkers Island Marina that now graces the Superior waterfront. It was also Hagen, working arm-in-arm with Minnesota Congressman Jim Oberstar & Wisconsin Congressman Dave Obey, that secured the federal & state funding that resulted in replacing the aged and deteriorating Arrowhead Bridge with the magnificent Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge joining the westerly ends of Superior and Duluth. These are but just two of Mayor Hagens world class achievements ... indeed, there are countless other accomplishments that bear Hagens fingerprints. Without reservation, Mayor Bruce Hagen carries my full endorsement for a 5th term as Superiors Mayor. With Respect, John Bray (MnDOT, Ret.)
