I have made three suggestions of things to wear when you go to church to worship. They were Expectancy, Enthusiasm & Encouragement. I would like to suggest one final garment to wrap around your heart. It is the Magnificent Robe of Love. Surely we ought to wear it. Clothes come in different selections and costs. You can purchase a dress for $50-$100 or you can pay into the thousands of dollars. Shirts for men come in all ranges of costs. You can literally spend as much as you want to spend. Love comes in grades too. Some love is false, or fictitious, or shallow, with little meaning. When we as Christians decide to put love around our hearts we need to make sure it is love that is absolutely sincere. The Apostle Paul gave us a beautiful description of the garment of love. LOVE IS PATIENT AND KIND. LOVE IS NOT JEALOUS OR BOASTFUL OR PROUD OR RUDE. IT DOES NOT DEMAND ITS OWN WAY. IT IS NOT IRRITABLE, AND IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF BEING WRONGED. IT DOES NOT REJOICE ABOUT INJUSTICE BUT REJOICES WHENEVER THE TRUTH WINS OUT. LOVE NEVER GIVES UP, NEVER LOSES FAITH, IS ALWAYS HOPEFUL, AND ENDURES THROUGH EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT) The kind of love we should wear must be without preconditions. It must not be touchy. The garment of love is not a garment that you wear that you are afraid someone will touch . . . it must be durable, wash and wear, and treated with scotch guard to keep it from being easily soiled and ruined. The love around our heart should not say, I will love you if you love me or “I will love you if you are just like me.” It is sad to say but much of the love shown in churches through the centuries is the kind of love that is so narrow it makes it difficult to love those who are different. That is why our churches are the most segregated gatherings left in the United States. We can change that by the way we dress when we go to church. Always make sure your heart is covered with Expectancy, Enthusiasm, Encouragement and Love.
