I have often wondered about today’s reading—to be arrested, - TopicsExpress

I have often wondered about today’s reading—to be arrested, persecuted, betrayed and to face death do not seem like “good news.” The more I let this passage speak, though, other words began to stick out: testify, endurance, opportunity. This reading is about perseverance to move forward in life—not with recklessness, but with a commitment to always be a person of faith, regardless of the consequences. My belief in the resurrection tells me that no matter what, if I follow the Lord, not a hair of my head will perish. I have learned this lesson repeatedly both in my personal life and in my professional life. How often have I missed opportunities to be a person of faith in the face of adversity because I have been consumed with worry, concern, and doubt? Despite my fears and my doubts, I have grown in faith and in my ability to trust in the Lord’s journey for me. I persevered in a small way to understand that Jesus does not leave me to perish; rather, he leads me to life fulfilled. Today’s passage is about the courage to do and think new things. It is about the courage to start the journey towards the kingdom of God knowing that Jesus will always give us the words and the wisdom that we need.
