I have tried to be quiet but cannot any longer. It is time to move past Paula Deen and George Zimmerman. I am not a prejudiced person, do not use racial slurs, and have dedicated most of my life to helping minorities. Most of us profile based on our own perceptions. Recently blacks in Duluth Ga were robbing Koreans they thought were jewelers and would have money. Gangs of Hispanic and black people attack each other. When I was in WY there was prejudice against American Indians. I am older and overweight and experience prejudice daily. No, Travon should not have died. Paula should not have used racial slurs. It hurts my heart when I hear the names my black students use in common speech. It is like profanity. We become desensitized and find the language slipping into the vocabulary of young and old alike. We need to use this horrible situation to build bridges not lay land mines for each other. Let the spirit of God prevail. Zimmerman did not violate FL law . If he did this with malice and hatred then he will be judged but this is not our responsibility. Pray for peace or we will continue to be mired in the status quo.
