I have usually been an optimistic advertising man. I believe the push-and-pull between client and agency is a healthy part of the relationship. You win some, you lose some, as the saying goes. But, I also believe in the influence of advertising to tickle the customers fancy. As ad men, we have the power to make our imagination come to reality --- at least in a 30-second spot, a print placement, a banner ad, an online video. And, I believe thats what clients are paying us for. Or, to be more precise, thats what clients SHOULD pay us for. So when I see a great idea that comes out from another that had been shot down in ours, it breaks my heart. For my team. For my client. I try not to dwell in the could-have-beens. But, man. THAT could have been.
