I heartily endorse Jim Sherrill for National Vice - TopicsExpress

I heartily endorse Jim Sherrill for National Vice President! Submitted on behalf of Jim Jim Sherrill This letter is to officially inform the membership of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association my intent to run for and become your next National Vice President. While my fellow candidates hold good qualities none of them have the experience, effectiveness or work ethic that I bring to the position of CVMA National Vice President. My name is James “SafetyJim” Sherrill, CVMA Life Member 1823, and I am from Texas. My military background: I retired from the US Army with a little over 29 years active duty. I served in OIF twice. Six tours with the 2nd Division in Korea, and twice in Europe. After retirement from the Army I served as a contractor on an IED training team for several years and then determined that money was not the way to my happiness. I now am fully retired and have been able to give a solid 100% to CVMA duties. Also after the Army I used my GI Bill and graduated from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview Texas, with a BS in Management. I consider myself as having a military family; my daughter served in the US Army for six years including two tours in Iraq and my oldest son still serves in the Army as a Field Artillery Forward Observer serving tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. My wife Dale, of 33 years has been an active Auxiliary member since 2008. I fully understand the challenges that our Members, Auxiliary and local Veterans may face each day and will do my very best to serve them as well as the specific duties of your National Vice President. My CVMA background: I have been an active member of the CVMA since June 2007. I just completed my tour as the State Representative for Texas. I have also served as TX 23A Detachment Commander and Secretary of TX 23-1. While leading Texas as the State Rep we had grown in membership to the largest membership state with well over 700 combined members. We started six new successful chapters, we total 12 Chapters now. We established and conducted three Annual State Meetings, a State Hall of Fame Plaque to recognize members and very proud to say our chapters have raised and donated thousands of dollars to various veteran related charities across Texas since 2011. Some will say numbers do not matter and I will tell you I disagree. With more members and chapters you are faced with more leadership challenges, this is exactly where I used and honed skills brought from the Army. If elected I will be an involved Vice President. My resolve: I am a firm believer and expect that no one would be more knowledgeable about what is going on “Time Now” in their states than engaged State Reps and Chapter Commanders. They have “Boots on the Ground” working with State and local Motorcycle Clubs, Riding Clubs and Community leaders. I do understand each Chapter is just a little different getting to the objective, yet our goal is the same. What works in Texas may not work in Iowa or Florida or vise-versa. If elected I will use up-to-date information without outside influence to determine results of tough issues. I will work closely with the other NBoD members through the complex decision making of initiatives to make us a better association. I will answer any question directed at me within 24 hours or less, and if not available contact needed people immediately as to why. There must be full disclosure, why would we not expect that? We must find ways to properly disperse our abundance of treasury funds instead of them just sitting in a low to no interest earning account. I want to work for a solution of why members drop from our rolls, what or how can we keep them as we continue to do veterans work. Just as I did in Texas, if elected I will travel (my dime) to different states in order to visit our members in their “Neck of the Woods” and hear their concerns and accomplishments. I will try my best to start during future National Conventions a schedule of workshops; President and COs, VP and XOs, NSAA and SAAs, NSec and Secretaries, NTres and Treasurers etc., so our Chapter Officers can be up-to-date and better run their chapters. They need to share ideas and learn from each other. We are not under that Oak tree anymore. What started over 12 years ago as a group of vets enjoying each other’s company; we give acknowledgement to those folks, however today we are so much more. We are a diverse and dynamic Motorcycle Association that is well known across the United States. Our donated time and revenues to veteran causes stun traditional Veteran groups like the VFW and Legion Riders and we must continue innovative ways to help vets while staying current in the motorcycle lifestyle we all love. If you have attended a national you may know of me. I ask each member that attends the 2014 National for your vote in electing me to become the next CVMA National Vice President. Respect to you all, “Safety Jim” Jim Sherrill
